Giles County Public Schools Names New Superintendent
Pearisburg, VA – Dr. Marlin Campbell has been announced as the next superintendent of Giles County Public Schools. His new position will become effective July 1, 2025. Dr. Campbell currently serves as the Assistant Superintendent for Carroll County Public Schools, a role he has held since 2023. He began his career in education as a classroom teacher. Campbell has served as an Assistant Principal in Wythe County Public Schools and Grayson County Public Schools, a Principal for Grayson County Public Schools and Carroll County Public Schools, and Director for Carroll County Public Schools, culminating in 19 years of experience in public education

SUMMER FEEDING PROGRAM FINAL PLAN
GCPS is participating in the Summer Feeding Program through DOE/USDA. All children are eligible to receive free breakfast and lunch through a home meal delivery program. Previously, we asked you to register through a different survey. Due to recent changes, we need to redo our registration process. If you are interested in obtaining meals for a child/ren in your home, please complete the registration form (anything in red MUST be completed). If you signed up for meals previously, we need you to do this registration process again. Meal bags will be delivered on June 11, June 25, July 9, July 23, and August 6 to addresses completed on this registration form (or a nearby location if safety is an issue). Routes with estimated times will be published the week prior. Food bags will consist of 10 days of breakfast and lunch. Please register by June 1 so we can plan accordingly. - Giles County students interested in receiving full-time virtual instruction for the 2025-26 school year should complete an online registration form: Online Registration Form. All registrations will be shared with your home school for approval. Your eligibility and approval status will be shared with you in the summer.
- Giles County (VA) Public Schools Announcement of Superintendent Search
- Giles County Public School is gauging interest in potentially providing summer meals for all children up to age eighteen (18). As a part of our preliminary planning phase, we are asking parents/guardians to fill out this interest form. The information that you provide will assist us logistically with the drop locations and provide a preliminary number of children who plan on participating. As we get closer to summer, Giles County Public Schools will provide more detailed information about dates and drop-off locations to our community. The Summer Meals Program will be dependent on the number of students participating.

- National PowerSchool Incident
Earlier this week, PowerSchool, an international provider of education administration software, announced that it had suffered a cybersecurity incident in late December. Although security of PowerSchool’s systems has been restored, data pertaining to students and educators at hundreds of school systems around the country were subjected to unauthorized access. The breach was limited to PowerSchool’s internal systems, and security of individual school system networks was not disturbed.
Giles County Public Schools utilizes some PowerSchool tools. We have asked PowerSchool to identify the scope of impact this incident may have had on information pertaining to members of our community. PowerSchool has assured us that they are investigating the matter.
Giles County Public Schools takes the privacy of our students’ and employees’ information very seriously.
We are committed to holding PowerSchool accountable. PowerSchool has advised us that they will directly notify any impacted individuals with details of the information pertaining to him or her that was affected.
Giles County Public Schools has not been provided with details on what information was exposed for specific individuals. PowerSchool has created a public link with FAQ's that may answer any questions you may have.

- Giles County Public Schools has announced its policy for providing free meals to all served under the National School Lunch and School Breakfast Programs. All Schools in the division will be participating in the Community Eligibility Provision (CEP) as implemented under the Healthy, Hunger-Free Kids Act of 2010. More information, and the released statement, can be viewed here.
- School divisions must periodically review,and update as necessary, local plans for the safe return to in-person instruction and continuity of services as required for receiving ARP Act ESSER Formula Funds. Please see our current plan: Updated June 1, 2023.
- CRA has been working on completing a Facilities Study for GCPS. This was updated as of 12/24/22. The updated copy of that divisionwide study can be found here.
- Per VDOE Guidelines, school divisions are required to make their updated ARP ESSER spending plan available. This plan can be reviewed here.
We have some exciting news that we would like to share. As information, we are partnering with the Community Health Center of the New River Valley to provide Mobile Preventative Dental Services to Giles County Schools.
These services include:

-Fluoride
-Sealants
