An Issuing Officer with the Giles County School Board Office issues work permits to residents of Virginia who are at least 14 years of age and who have not yet reached their 16 birthday.
To apply for a work permit, the following documents are required:
- a birth certificate or transcript thereof issued by registrar of vital statistics
- a Bible or Baptismal record
- Insurance policy that has been in effect for at least one year
- Passport
- Driver's License Permit
- School Records
A copy of the Employment Certificate, once completed and evidence of age is presented, is issued to the minor who should then present it to his/her employer and employment may begin. If the minor changes employers, it is necessary to complete this same process to receive a new Employment Certificate.
