*School Board Hears Reports from the Superintendent

The Board approved J.B. Buckland as the VSBA delegate for one year and Ronald Whitehead as the alternate delegate for 1999-00. Mr. Buckland and Mr. Whitehead abstained.

The Board approved the Chairman and Superintendent to approve various RFP’s and employment between School Board meetings should there be a need to do so.

*School Board Approves/Confirms Recommendations Regarding Personnel Items

Confirmation of the following employment for the 1999-00 school year: Carolyn Painter – GHS English Teacher; Byron Hurley – GHS Social Studies Teacher; Lisa Darlington – NHS Math Teacher, and Mitzi White – NHS/EEMS Special Ed. Teacher. Also confirmed were the following resignations: Donita Anderson – Macy Special Ed. Teacher and Rita Weimer – NHS Math Teacher.

The Board approved the following employment for the 1999-00 school year: Greg Brown as Coordinator/Intern at Giles High School; McCreery Mann – NEMS Half-time Special Ed. Teacher/ Teacher Assistant; Dennis Kidd –Eastern District Bus Driver and Anna Davis – Central District Bus Driver.

*School Board Takes Action on Other Items

The Board approved bid award to Branch and Associates for the Giles and Narrows High Schools Renovation Projects. HICO was awarded the asbestos abatement contract.

The Board confirmed the following RFP’s: No. 899 to low bidder, Roanoke Restaurant, for cafeteria items; No. 999 to low bidder, Earthgrain, for bakery items; and No. 1099 to the only bidder, United Valley Bell, for dairy items.

Set the next School Board meeting for Thursday morning, August 26, 1999 at 7:30 AM prior to the new teachers coming in for orientation, where School Board members will have the opportunity to meet new staff members.
