Announcements

January 14, 2021:  As information, Giles County Public Schools will begin transitioning 4th-7th grade students back to school for 4 days per week (Monday through Thursday) of in-person instruction. This will begin on Tuesday, Jan. 19th, due to Monday being a holiday.
In addition, 8th-12th grade will continue the hybrid instructional model during the week of Jan. 19-21, but will begin to transition to in-person instruction for 4 days per week (Monday through Thursday), beginning on Tuesday, January 26th, due to Monday the 25th being a teacher workday.
We look forward to bringing more of our students back for 4 days per week for in-person instruction. We ask everyone to continue to follow the necessary safety protocols so we will be able to continue operating under this model moving forward.

December 8, 2020:  Due to the continued challenges, Giles County Public Schools will be transitioning to 100% virtual learning effective Wednesday, December 9, 2020.  This will be in effect until January 4, 2021, when we will return to our current schedule, which is PreK – 3rd grade attending in-person 4 days a week and the Hybrid Schedule for 4th – 12th grade. 


November 17, 2020:  As information, based on the amended Executive Orders announced by the Governor on Friday, November 13th, effective immediately, all students and staff will be required to wear a face covering during the school day, even if 6 ft. physical distancing can be achieved.  This will provide the safest learning environment for all students and staff.  If you have questions about appropriate masks, please refer to this information posted on the CDC website - https://www.cdc.gov/coronavirus/2019-ncov/prevent-getting-sick/about-face-coverings.html  We thank you for your adherence to this requirement and look forward to continuing to provide the safest learning environment possible for everyone.

Schools

Giles County Public Schools is a small, rural school division in Southwest Virginia approximately 30 minutes west of Blacksburg, VA.  We have approximately 2,240 students attending the following schools: 3 PreK-7th grade schools (Eastern Elem/Middle, Macy McClaugherty, & Narrows Elem/Middle), 2 8th-12th grade high schools (Giles High and Narrows High), and our Technology Center (serving Juniors and Seniors).  In addition, the county is home to 37 miles of the New River and New River Water Trail and over 50 miles of the Appalachian Trail and the Great Eastern Trail.  Welcome to Giles County Public Schools !    Visit often and share in our successes!  Together we are building a better future for our community.

Return to Learning Plan (rev. 1-19-21) Inclement Weather/Virtual Plan Eff 12-17-20
Giles County will begin the 20-21 school year on a hybrid schedule but will re-evaluate our plan and health conditions at the 4-week mark and will determine if the move to the Traditional In-Person method is warranted.
